What kind of steel is carbon tool steel and what is its carbon content?

1. Carbon tool steel refers to high-carbon tool steel with high carbon content but no alloy. Their serial numbers start with the pinyin of carbon “T”, and the following numbers represent the carbon content. Generally, they are T8, T9, T10, T12.

2. The carbon content of carbon tool steel is generally between 0.65% and 1.35%. Because they do not have alloys, they can obtain high hardness at low cost. Also, because they do not have alloys, their hardenability is very poor. If the agent exceeds 15mm, it cannot be quenched, and its heat treatment deformation is large, it is easy to peel off, and its impact toughness is also very poor. After quenching and hardening, it has a large deformation and is easy to crack. Its working temperature cannot exceed 200 ℃.

3. Carbon tool steel is mainly used for some wear-resistant blocks, gauges, or guide pillars and guide bushings. During the working process, there is no need to bear impact, but only high hardness and wear resistance are required.

Of course! Because it has no alloy, its price is very cheap, and because it has no alloy and seems to have high hardness, its wear resistance is still incomparable to that of alloy tool steel.
