What are the commonly used mold steel grades?

There are many grades of mold steel.

Each country has its own mold steel grade, and each steelmaking plant also has its own mold steel grade.
People who use mold steel will be confused by the commonly used mold steel grades.
The same grade of mold steel can be used in this situation, but not in other situations.

In the same usage situation, different grades of mold steel have different effects.
Customers often encounter this situation and have asked me many times to help them summarize the grades of mold steel they use?
In what situations are they used? How to choose common mold steel grades for various molds?

Here I make the following summary based on my own experience.

There are more than 60 commonly used mold steel grades.
How do we choose common mold steel grades according to different usage occasions?
1. Commonly used mold steel grades for metal stamping molds:
1) Commonly used mold steel grades for ordinary single punch molds: Cr12, Cr12MoV, 2510, O1 oil steel;
2) Commonly used mold steel grades for continuous stamping molds: Cr12MoV, SKD11, D2, DC53, 8566, 2379, SLD;
3) Commonly used mold steel grades for continuous stamping die punch materials: SKD11, D2, DC53, 2379, SLD, 8566, SKH-9, SKH-51, tungsten steel, ASP23, ASP60;
4) Commonly used mold steel grades for drawing or deep drawing molds: D2, DC53, 2379, SLD, XW-5, LG, 8566, SKH-9, tungsten steel;

2. Commonly used mold steel grades for die-casting molds:
1) Commonly used mold steel grades for zinc alloy die-casting molds: H13, 2344, SKD61, DAC, DHA1, FDAC, DH2F, 4Cr5MoSiV1;
2) Commonly used mold steel grades for aluminum alloy die-casting molds: H13, 2344, SKD61, 8407, 8418, DAC, DHA1;
3) Commonly used mold steel grades for copper alloy die-casting molds: 8433, 8566;

3. Commonly used mold steel grades for plastic injection molds:
1) Plastic injection molds for ordinary structural parts, commonly used mold steel grades: 2311, P20, 738, 2738H;
2) Appearance parts plastic injection molds, commonly used mold steel grades: 738, 2738H, 718, 718H, NAK80, 2083, 2316, 2083H, 2316H, ordinary S136, ordinary S136H, S136-D;
3) Transparent plastic product injection molds, commonly used mold steel grades: NAK80, 2083, 2316, 2083H, 2316H, ordinary S136, ordinary S136H, S136-D;
4) Injection molds for plastic products that require rust prevention, commonly used mold steel grades: 2083, 2316, 2083H, 2316H, ordinary S136, ordinary S136H, S136-D;
5) High mirror polished plastic product injection molds, commonly used mold steel grades: S136, S136H, S136-D, HPM38, M300, S-STAR;
6) Optical grade mirror polished plastic product injection mold, commonly used mold steel grades: M333, S136-D

4. Commonly used mold steel grades:
There are more than 60 varieties of commonly used mold steel grades, and our mold steel focuses on 15 products. These 15 products are enough for your daily use.
Plastic injection mold steel: 718H, NAK80, S136-D, M333.
Hot work die casting mold steel: high molybdenum H13, SKD61, sulfur-free 8407, sulfur-free 8418, 8566.
Metal stamping die steel: D2, SKD11, DC53, LG, 8566, SKH-9.

There are more than ten commonly used mold steel grades listed above. In addition, the names of the mold steel produced by each steelmaking plant vary greatly, so you need to keep your eyes open when purchasing commonly used mold steel grades.
